Professional Development Awards Program Guidelines

Overview

The Professional Development Awards Program is funded under Article 30 Professional Development, of the Agreement negotiated between New York State (State) and the Communications Workers of America, Local 1104/Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU), and is designed to fund a variety of professional development projects or activities to assist eligible teaching assistants and graduate assistants develop their full professional potential or prepare for advancement.

All full-time and part-time teaching assistants and graduate assistants represented by the GSEU are eligible to apply for Professional Development Awards Program funds. To be considered, eligible teaching assistants and graduate assistants must:

Application Procedures

The deadline for submitting applications is determined by the campus President or designee. A completed application and all required documentation must be submitted to the office designated by the campus President or designee. Information regarding the designated office for submitting the application or the application process may be obtained by contacting your local GSEU representative or campus human resources office. To be considered for an award, the following must be submitted:

Review of applications will take into consideration the nature of the professional development project or activity and how the project or activity will assist applicants in developing their full professional potential or preparing for advancement.

Reimbursement Procedures

All expenditures related to projects or activities funded through the State/GSEU Professional Development Awards Program must be in accordance with the Professional Development Awards Program Guidelines and the New York State Comptroller’s Rules and Regulations and limitations contained therein. Reimbursement of expenditures is handled through the campus fiscal office. The required paperwork for reimbursement, including original receipts, must be submitted to the campus fiscal office within 30 days after completing the project or activity. If funding is awarded for a project or activity that was completed at an earlier date, the required reimbursement paperwork, including original receipts, must be submitted no later than 30 days after the date of the award. Individuals who do not submit vouchers and receipts in a timely manner will forfeit entitlement to reimbursement. Questions regarding reimbursement should be directed to the campus fiscal office.

Program Evaluation

A completed Program Evaluation on the funded project or activity must be submitted to the office designated by the campus President or designee within 30 days after completing the project or activity or within 30 days after approval of an application if the project or activity is completed. Information regarding the designated office for submitting the Program Evaluation may be obtained by contacting your local GSEU representative or campus human resources office. Failure to submit a Program Evaluation may result in postponement of action on an applicant’s subsequent applications for funding until the Program Evaluation is received by the office designated by the campus President or designee. Acknowledgement of Funds

Award recipients are required to acknowledge the support of the New York State and Graduate Student Employees Union Professional Development Awards Program as the funding source on all publicity, publications, and handout materials.
